Expand Your Living Space
As the trend for expansion rather than moving house continues, the ways to increase and improve the available living space become more creative.
Going up….
Perhaps the most obvious solution to a lack of space, and certainly one that has been popular for a long time, is to build up into the roof, converting it into an extra room, to use as an office, bedroom, or even a self-contained suite. Ideal for housing guests or for an independently minded child to gain a little more privacy, they also add instant value particularly with the inclusion of ensuite bathroom facilities.
Going down….
Unlike Loft conversions, basement conversions are only now becoming popular as homeowners realise the potential of this often underused space. Extensive basements run underneath the entirety of many townhouses, presenting the possibility of a whole new floor with many different uses. Create a space that everyone will enjoy, with a study, games room, music room and more. Basement conversions also add value to the property and ample room should you still need storage space.
Going outside….
Even in a narrow terraced houses there is often surprisingly ample room for an extension. Unlike roofing or basement conversions these will increase the overall footprint of your property but if you're prepared to sacrifice part of the garden there is no other drawback. Few people will build an extension without using the opportunity to allow more natural light to flood into the property and often the result is floor-to-ceiling windows connecting inside with out, and bifold doors which fold right back, creating a lovely dining space for milder days, wet or dry.
Davidson John can assist by offering consistent sound advice drawn from years of experience within the construction industry.
We undertake structural design of any extensions together with any associated building modification, strengthening works etc. As a company we have experience ranging from small extensions of domestic properties, garages etc through to large multi-storey apartment developments, executive property re-modelling, basement, loft and barn conversions.
We are able to discuss in detail your fitting-out requirements, identifying proposed floor and wall finishes, discuss plumbing, electrical requirements and identify any specialist joinery or decorative works. We will then produce comprehensive drawings that may be accurately priced and hopefully form the basis for contract documents and the works on site.
By becoming involved in the early stages of a project we help clients avoid expensive, abortive design work and our experience ensures a smooth transition from design through to planning and eventual construction on site.
